The 82nd Annual Academy Awards (The 2010 Oscars)

Well, some people were happy. Most people were definitely not. This year's presentation was great, with half the presenters being comedians or tongue-tied teenagers. I especially loved Ben Stiller, speaking gibberish while dressed up as a Na'vi, presenting an award that Avatar wasn't even nominated for! Well, that brings us to another moot point: the failure of Avatar at the Awards. Though it was nominated for 9, it only won 3: Art Direction, Cinematography, and (obviously) Visual Effects. The movie that won most of the others was the Hurt Locker, with Best Picture, Best Director, and Original Screenplay, among others. Though this movie was a box office bust, it wasn't that much of a surprise to sweep the awards. It had already won over critics everywhere, and the Iraq War thriller had beat out Avatar in many other award ceremonies. These results show the one thing I hate about the Awards: it doesn't honor the best movies at all, just the ones the critics love. If it was based on what the people love, Hurt Locker would have been shut out. These Awards also showed me how much the world has turned to the Internet and digital stuffs. When I tried to edit the Jeff Bridges Wikipedia 2 seconds after he won the award, someone already beat me to it!!
