2010 Vancouver Failympics

You might be wondering if that title is some kind of extreme typo... Actually, it's an accurate representation of how these Olympics are going. Some have even started to call it the "Glitch Games"! Even before the start of the Games, the event already had a negative aura, because of the death of a Georgian luger while practicing the day before. Then, at the Opening Ceremony, two more almost whimsical things happened. One of the poles that was supposed to rise up and reveal the Olympic cauldron actually failed to rise, destroying the awe factor of the Ceremony. There were also embarrassing construction tools around the stage area. A major security breach was uncovered when it turned out a mentally ill person disguised as a security guard was able to get within feet of Joe Biden, the American Vice President. During the games themselves, there have already been quite a few injuries, such as a speedskater's femur getting sliced and a skier toppling over and breaking her leg. Choosing this time of winter was also a mistake, as a lot of the snow is either slushy or icy, and many events had to be postponed because of snowstorms. There were problems with bad ice on the speedskating track, and 20,000 tickets had to be canceled due to weather problems. However, on a more positive note, the Olympics so far have been very good for the United States, what with Shani Davis(speedskating), Lindsey Vonn(alpine skiing), Shaun White(snowboarding), and Evan Lysacek(figure skating). They have all won one gold each, along with Seth Wescott(snowboard cross) and Hannah Kearney(freestyle skiing Moguls), making the US leading in golds and overall medals. Then again, however, America had the most amount of athletes as well... Though it has been good for America, Canada has not met the Olympic standards needed for the Games.
