On December 6, our team, Common Sense, participated in the Sacramento Regional FLL Competition for NorCal Division. We had to drive for 2 hours, and we started at around 6 AM in the morning! The competition was long and hard, and we didn't do as well as we had hoped to. However, at the awards ceremony, our luck turned. We not only qualified, but came in 2nd out of 35 teams that had already made it thorough the first level! Check back for another update after Jan. 16 of 2010.
One of the things I pride myself on the most is being a nerd. First let's talk about the origin of the word "nerd". It actually comes from a line in an old Dr. Seuss book. Now, in general society, being a nerd, especially for students, is not a good thing. Nerd, now, is almost an insult word, something you call people if they are small, smart, and wear glasses. The proper definition of a nerd is "one who is slavishly obsessed with academic pursuits". Though this is pretty much true, I view the word in a sense not quite so negative. Though you may not have much of a social life, it will definitely pay off in the future. You will be ahead of the pack in college getting a job, general knowledge, and life in general. And especially now, nerds have a social life. There's a huge undercurrent of smart people that call themselves "nerds", and they have a huge presence on sites like Youtube, Facebook, and Myspace. So, all in all, being a nerd can be a good thing, don't you think?
GO NERDS!!!!!!
