Day 5: Sitka, AK
I had a good, long sleep after walking all aover Juneau the previous day, and woke up to find myself in a postcard. No, it was Sitka! What a picturesque little town with haze-covered mountains filled with sitka spruce and western hemlock, old historic Russian buildings nestled right in the palm of nature! Enough with my poetry now. We walked around town, looking at buildings from the late 1800s, used by the Russians that owned Alaska before we did. I saw where the bishop lived, the church where he preached, and even the very place Alaska was bought from the Russians. Then we walked over to the Sheldon jackson museum with its great collection of native artifacts like weapons, boats, and statues. We also saw the Sitka National Historic Park, which had lots of original native Tlingit Totem poles.
The Sitka Skyline, taken from Castle Hill, the place where Alaska was bought from Russia.
